Online Obituaries

William F. Gardiner

August 24, 1941 - September 02, 2017

William F. Gardiner, “Bill,” age 76, a longtime resident of Naperville, IL., passed away on Saturday, September 2, 2017. Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Susan; his loving children David Michael (Julianne) Gardiner, Stephen William (Nicolle) Gardiner and Rebekah Lorraine (Eric) Covay; his cherished grandchildren, Olivia and Phoebe; Liam, Luke, Charlee, Declan and Holden; Greyson, Zander and Miles; his dear siblings, Mary Jo Gardiner, Gerry (Ginger) Gardiner and Keith (Susan) Gardiner; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Bill was born in Springfield, IL on August 24, 1941. He attended Cathedral Boys High School before graduating from Loyola University Chicago where he met his wife.  A man of voracious intellect, Bill was one of the first associates to occupy the Sears Tower. The true definition of a gentlemen, Bill carried interests ranging from Broadway and Billie Holiday to Faulkner and Proust to enduring endless Sesame Street episodes with his grandchildren. He created a home for us all – over the stove, in our gardens, even on the golf course. Bill made a safe haven for everyone that he met. He is dearly missed and at peace. He remains with us now in the love we share with each other; Bill may be gone, but his love will never leave us.
