Joseph Thomas Gurnik
December 29, 1926 - December 03, 2017
Joseph Gurnik, age 90 of Slidell, LA, formerly of Lisle, IL, passed away peacefully, on December 3 at Anderson Memory Care of Slidell, LA. He was born December 29, 1926 in Chicago to his loving late parents, Joseph and Anna Gurnik; cherished husband of the late Norma Gurnik, loving father of Thomas (Karen) Gurnik and Judith (Jeffery) Gaa, Grandfather to Matthew and Audrey Gurnik and Devin and Margaux Gaa and brother to John (Nora) Gurnik. Joseph was an accomplished Lighting Engineer, holding 3 patents in his field. He was an Eagle Scout and earned a BSE in Electrical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology after being honorably discharged from the army after serving his country in WWII. Joseph loved spending time with his wife, and family – they spent many happy days canoeing and picnicking as a young family. In his later years, he extended this to his grandchildren. He was the ultimate home handy man and was always there to help anyone fix anything – always the “go-to” guy when his children needed something fixed – even long distance. Joe married the love of his life and spent 65 wonderful years with her. He joins her now.
